Apple’s new Apple Watch models come with Audio Intelligence features, including Siri Recap, which can listen to conversations in the background and create AI-generated summaries.
Apple says the feature is opt-in and does not create or store raw audio recordings. Users who do not want their Apple Watch listening in on conversations can turn Siri Recap off or limit when it works.
Siri Recap is part of Apple’s new Audio Intelligence capabilities for Apple Watch. Unlike traditional Siri, which generally requires a user to activate the assistant, Siri Recap is designed to work in the background. When enabled, it can listen to conversations throughout the day and generate high-level summaries to help users remember what was discussed later.
Apple says Siri Recap does not create conventional audio recordings of conversations. The audio is processed through a protected hardware environment and is not accessible to the operating system, apps, or Apple itself. The generated recaps are high-level summaries rather than full conversation transcripts.
Users can disable Siri Recap through the Watch app on a paired iPhone.
Open the Watch app, go to Siri, find Siri Recap, and switch it off. Once disabled, the Apple Watch will no longer use the feature to take ambient notes and create conversation summaries. Apple also lets users turn Siri Recap on or off from Control Center.
Users do not necessarily need to turn off the feature completely. Apple lets users schedule Siri Recap by time of day, location, or specific situations. This means users can keep it active during working hours while turning it off at home or at night.

Live Rewind is a separate feature. It allows users to retrieve a text snippet of what was said during the previous 15 seconds after double-pressing the Digital Crown. It does not continuously create a running conversation transcript in the background.
Apple introduced these Audio Intelligence capabilities with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, subject to software and compatibility requirements.
Turning off Siri Recap does not disable regular Siri. Users can continue using Siri for reminders, weather, timers, messages, smart-home controls, and other supported actions.
