Apple’s Siri can help iPhone users create and manage calendar events without opening the Calendar app. The voice assistant can schedule meetings, change appointments, check upcoming events, and confirm availability through voice commands.
The feature can prove useful while commuting, cooking, multitasking, or when reaching for the phone is inconvenient. However, Siri can sometimes create a reminder instead of a calendar event or check the wrong calendar.
Siri needs permission to access the Calendar app before it can create events.
Open Settings > Siri & Search and scroll to the ‘Before Asking’ section. Ensure ‘Learn from this App’ is enabled for Calendar.
Next, return to the main Settings menu, open Calendar, tap Siri & Search, and turn on Use Siri with this App and Show App in Search.
Users relying on third-party calendars such as Google Calendar or Outlook may need to repeat the same process for those apps.
Activate Siri by saying ‘Hey Siri’ or holding the side button. The wording matters. A command such as ‘Remind me to call John’ goes to Reminders. To create a Calendar entry, users should include words such as ‘event’ or ‘meeting.’
Some examples include: ‘Create a calendar event for a dentist appointment tomorrow at 10 AM’ or ‘Schedule a meeting with Sarah on Friday at 2 PM.’
Siri can also handle recurring events, locations, and alerts. Users can ask it to schedule a team sync every weekday at 9 AM, create a flight event with a reminder two hours before departure, or check tomorrow’s calendar.

If Siri checks the wrong calendar, go to Settings > Calendar > Default Calendar and select the calendar used most often.
If Siri creates a reminder instead of a calendar event, users can say, ‘Actually, put that in my calendar.’ Siri can then move it to Calendar.
Siri can work with Google Calendar when you add a Google account to the iOS Calendar app and grant Siri the required permissions. Outlook also works when its calendar is synced with the native iOS Calendar app.
