Apple started rolling out iOS 27, its biggest iPhone software update of 2026, bringing a redesigned Siri experience, new Apple Intelligence tools, and a long list of changes across everyday apps.
The update is available from September 14 for compatible iPhones, with some of the most advanced AI features restricted to newer models. Apple improved system performance, search, connectivity, and personalization, while also adding new controls aimed at families and younger users.
The biggest change is the arrival of Siri AI, which is designed to handle more natural conversations and understand what is happening on the screen. It can use personal context, work across apps, and draw on broader knowledge to help complete tasks. Users can also interact with Siri through a dedicated app, while Camera-based Siri features can recognize and provide information about objects or content in view.
iOS 27 expands Apple Intelligence into several everyday functions. Photos gains tools such as Spatial Reframing, which lets users alter a picture's composition after it's been captured, along with improvements to Clean Up and image extension.
The Shortcuts app can also create more sophisticated automations from natural-language instructions. Siri can help users draft, edit and refine text across supported apps. Safari also gets a useful addition called Notify Me, which can monitor a webpage for changes such as a price reduction or product restock. Tabs can also be automatically organized into relevant groups.
Apple refined its Liquid Glass interface, giving users greater control over how transparent or tinted the design appears. App icons have also received visual refinements, while lock-screen customization has been expanded.
Other practical changes include separate volume controls for different alert types and improved search in Mail. According to Apple, several everyday functions should feel faster, with performance improvements to app launches, photo loading, and AirDrop transfers.

Apple also expanded parental controls in iOS 27. Parents can gain more control over the websites children access, communication, and app usage, including approval requirements for certain new websites.
The update supports a wide range of devices, stretching back to the iPhone 11. However, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require newer hardware, including the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as supported iPhone 16 models and later. This means older iPhones will receive many of the general iOS 27 improvements but not every AI-powered feature.
