Apple is reportedly increasing production plans for its first foldable smartphone, widely expected to debut as iPhone Ultra. This move signals the tech giant’s stronger confidence in demand for the premium product.

According to Nikkei Asia and 9to5Mac, Apple has requested its suppliers to prepare for manufacturing of nearly 10 million units of the foldable iPhone Ultra. This number is higher than the previously predicted figure of 7-8 million. The company also intends to manufacture over 70 million units of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, increasing the production of premium iPhones to approximately 80 million units in the second half of 2026.

Apple's total iPhone production target for 2026 is reportedly around 220 million units, while IDC has estimated that this number could go up to 240 million. In addition, Apple has told its suppliers to stockpile some components for the iPhone 18 Pro models.

The foldable iPhone Ultra is speculated to be the most expensive iPhone, with IDC pegging its base price at approximately $2,500 (Rs. 2.38 lakh). Versions with increased storage capacity might go up to $3,000 in price.

Apple is expected to unveil iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra at its traditional September 2026 launch event. However, the foldable model may arrive later as it has a complex manufacturing process. Reports also suggest the standard iPhone 18 could be pushed to spring 2027.
