Apple is all set to ramp up production of its first foldable iPhone, widely tipped to launch as the iPhone Ultra. Amid all the speculations and rumors, a fresh report claims that the tech giant has asked suppliers to prepare nearly 10 million units for 2026. Earlier estimates put the figure at 7-8 million. However, Apple has yet to confirm the device or its production plans. Supply chain reports indicate Apple is expanding manufacturing well ahead of its expected launch later this year.
According to a report by Nikkei Asia, “Apple has increased its initial production target from the previously reported 7 million to 8 million units. While the company has not confirmed the device or its production plans, the reported increase indicates confidence in demand for the upcoming foldable model.”
Although Apple has yet to unveil the foldable device, industry reports suggest it will come with some major updates. These include:
A book-style folding design
A crease-minimizing display
Flagship-grade hardware
A titanium chassis
The foldable iPhone is expected to compete directly with premium foldables already available in the market. Suppliers were asked to be prepared for more orders should there be any excess demand for the components. Apple is also reportedly reserving some components from the iPhone 17 series for future use.
The upcoming foldable iPhone is expected to be released alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup at the next product launch in September. However, the actual model, specifications, timeline, and manufacturing quantities have not yet been confirmed by Apple. Apple hasn't confirmed any of this. The 10 million figure comes from supply chain sources only.
