Apple has released iOS 26.5 as a Release Candidate sample for developers and public testers. According to MacRumors, the iOS 26.5 RC build includes end-to-end encrypted RCS texting (beta) when communicating with Android users via the Messages app.

End-to-end encryption in ‌RCS‌ provides security for messages sent between compatible iOS 26.5 and Android devices. This ensures data encryption during transmission, thus limiting unauthorized third-party access to messages.

iOS 26.5 Gets Encryption, Ads, Pride Wallpaper

End-to-End Encryption RCS

End-to-end encryption is enabled by default and can be controlled through a toggle in the Messages settings. The presence of the lock symbolizes encrypted communication. Notably, end-to-end encrypted RCS communications will be tested in beta alongside iOS 26.5.

Its availability depends on supported carriers and will gradually increase, with encryption only working when both sender and receiver are on networks that support the most recent RCS standard.

Suggested Places in Apple Maps

The update adds a ‘Suggested Places’ section to Apple Maps, where localized advertisements will be displayed. According to the study, businesses can promote listings within search results and at the top of this area, with placements based on relevance, user activity, and local trends.

Notably, the advertising will be properly labeled and privacy-protected, guaranteeing that user location data and ad interactions are not associated with specific Apple accounts.

Pride Wallpaper

iOS 26.5 will include a Pride-themed iPhone wallpaper, which Apple describes as having a vivid, joyful design honoring LGBTQ+ groups during Pride Month and beyond, as well as a dynamic layout and customizable colors.
