Amazon positions itself at the front of the augmented reality race with two new smart glasses projects. The company plans to release a sleek consumer device, codenamed Jayhawk, and a field-oriented version, called Amelia, for delivery operations. These moves aim squarely at challenging Ray-Ban Meta's dominance in the wearable AR market.

Jayhawk for Consumers and Amelia for Delivery Workers

The Jayhawk model will target general users and the average consumer. The wearable will include a full-color display visible in one eye. Speakers, camera, and microphones will enable immersive AR without bulky form factors.

These Amazon AR glasses are expected to look fashionable and provide elite functionality at the same time. Sources indicate that consumer models will appear in markets globally by late 2026 or early 2027.

Amelia will serve delivery workers. The glasses will show navigation direction and package details directly on the lens. The display information will reduce dependence on smartphones and cut delays in transit or drop-off. Amazon expects initial production of about 100,000 units and aims for rollout as early as the second quarter of 2026.

Competition and Market Outlook

Both models will share AR display technology supplied by Meta-Bounds, a Chinese vendor known for vivid visual overlay capability. Jayhawk targets style and comfort, and Amelia sacrifices elegance for utility in daily field work.

Amazon faces stiff competition from its contemporaries. Meta already sells Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. The tech giant plans more innovation under its Ray-Ban Meta and Hypernova lines. Amazon’s Jayhawk must match or exceed in features like display clarity, battery life, and user experience to secure market interest.

Industry insiders state that prices will fall into the premium wearable range. Launch timing between late 2026 and early 2027 for Jayhawk seems likely, whereas Amelia might arrive sooner.

These developments signal Amazon’s broader ambition. The company shifts AR glasses from niche tools to everyday wearables. Delivery operations may get optimized. Consumer applications may extend into visual assistants, notifications, and even shopping tied to Amazon’s ecosystem. Meta will not have uncontested space much longer.
