Apple is expected to launch the second-generation AirTag in 2025, and what’s in store for the tracking gear is the following upgrades. As rightly pointed out by Mark Gurman quoting Bloomberg, the new AirTag 2 will offer a ‘considerably’ longer tracking range enabling Apple to integrate its second-generation Ultra-Wideband chip.
This new chip available in the iPhone 15 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2, offers up to three times the range of the current AirTag. To provide some context, the existing AirTag tracks item up to about 60 meters (200 feet), so with the new model, this distance can be increased to a massive 180 meters or nearly 600 feet.
It will also raise the bar on the Precision Finding feature that comes with the iPhone 15 and upcoming iPhone 16 models. Using this aspect, one can track an item or even a friend in a crowded place with an incredible level of precision; that is why the AirTag 2 is a breakthrough when it comes to item tracking.
Besides range, important issues Apple is touching on today are related to privacies and safety. A new component for AirTag 2 will be an enhanced in-built speaker, which is less easy to dismantle. This adjustment works to conform to this possibility in stalking situations.
Nonetheless, the main design of the AirTag will remain the same; however, it should be noted that Apple will not relax its focus on user protection.
The inaugural AirTag went public in April 2021, and by the time we have the second generation, it’s four years later. This much-anticipated improvement is likely to give AirTag stable ground in the item tracking industry thus offering a longer range, better protection for AirTag and smooth working within the Apple environment.
Apple fans and tech lovers will have something to fix their eyes on as they expect the new AirTag 2 to be launched soon.
Whether in personal or business applications, the new AirTag is expected to provide enhanced, secure and efficient item tracking in the future. There will be more details coming as we get closer to the release date.
