Layoffs are hitting employees in the tech industry again. This time, it’s Webflow, a website-building platform that was once seen as a fast-growing Silicon Valley success story.  On Wednesday, the company cut another round of jobs as AI reshapes the tech industry. CEO Linda Tong informed employees that the company is restructuring and shifting to ‘smaller, more focused teams’ that can move faster. The company did not reveal how many workers lost their jobs.

The sudden cuts quickly triggered reactions across the tech community. Former employees described the situation as stressful and shocking, especially because many workers reportedly lost access to company systems soon after the announcement.

Webflow Cuts Staff During AI Shift

Reports suggest the latest layoffs affected several teams inside Webflow. It came suddenly without any prior notice. An ex-employee has revealed that he woke up with his colleagues panicking about the situation and then received an email stating his designation had been removed from the company.

Webflow spokesperson Paul Chalker didn’t exactly reveal the numbers, but it would be somewhere between 500 and 1000 employees who faced this layoff. He further mentioned, “As part of our standard security process, access to company devices and systems was restricted a few minutes before notifications were sent to personal email addresses.”

The move also follows a wider pattern across the tech industry. Earlier this year, many startups and software firms announced fresh layoffs as companies tried to lower costs. Reports suggest operational, support, and product-related roles were among the hardest hit during the cuts.

An ex-engineer during his anonymous interview revealed, “C-suite thinks that I’m being replaced by AI, but they actually understand what AI is doing. They’re going to find out at some point that they haven’t actually replaced anything, all they’ve done is make a mess.”

Sudden Layoffs Continue Hurting Startup Workers

The emotional impact of sudden layoffs has become a serious concern in the tech sector. Startup jobs often come with long hours and heavy pressure. Unexpected job cuts can quickly create stress, fear, and financial problems for workers.

Some former employees said the layoffs increased anxiety about job security across the industry. Others spoke about burnout after years of working inside fast-moving startups. The current hiring slowdown is also making it harder for laid-off workers to find new roles quickly.

Startup Funding Boom Has Slowed Down

A few years ago, startups hired aggressively as investment money poured into the tech industry. Many companies focused heavily on rapid growth instead of profit. The situation has changed sharply.

Investors now want startups to spend less, earn profits faster, and avoid large operating costs. As a result, many firms are cutting staff while shifting more resources toward AI development. The latest layoffs at Webflow reflect the growing pressure many startups now face.
