EA is mostly known for its simulation gaming series. Whether it's FIFA, the NFL, or life simulation games like The Sims, fans love grinding through them. Especially, The Sims series has a massive player base who never gets bored of grinding these life-simulation games. Anyway, after 2014, no main entry was released in The Sims series, and already, for a while, gamers have been asking for remastered versions of the first two games.
After too many leaks, teasers, and speculations, EA finally granted this wish and released The Sims and The Sims 2 Legacy Collections as part of the twenty-fifth-anniversary celebration. However, the launch of the Legacy Collection wasn’t smooth, especially The Sims 2.
The life-simulation gaming genre doesn’t have many options available for gamers; therefore, the popularity of EA’s The Sims games is unbeatable. These games generate millions of revenues for EA, especially after The Sims 4 went free-to-play in 2022.
As the fanbase is getting bigger, the demand for re-releasing the first two games of the series also gets higher. So, when EA granted their wish and re-released The Sims and The Sims 2 on January 31, 2025, it was a remarkable moment for PC gamers. Unfortunately, this excitement didn’t last long.
Immediately after the release of The Legacy Collections, players started reporting bugs and glitches. While both games have these issues, The Sims 2 Legacy Collection is reportedly broken with crashes and other bugs. This re-release is intended to make these games easy to run on modern PCs, but the situation is completely different than what was expected.
Notably, these issues vary from one to another based on their system. While some players can enjoy these Legacy Collections without much trouble, others face loads of problems, including The Sims 2 Legacy Collection not booting up, crashing at launch, or launching only in windowed mode.
Additionally, players have reported that their Sims are refusing to obey commands and, in some cases, the game is deleting Sims randomly, making it difficult for players to progress. Most importantly, these negative reviews are not only from those who have played a few hours only, but even players who have ground The Sims 2 Legacy Collection for more than eight hours pointed out these same problems.
Despite The Sims 2 Legacy Collection touching the peak of 5k concurrent players on Steam on the launch day, broken gameplay experiences have brought the rating down to Mixed instead of Mostly Positive.
Since these issues started coming to light, EA's social media accounts have been loaded with complaints. Even though EA is still celebrating the re-release of these two games on social platforms, the scenario is not the same when it comes to EA support forums. Here, the community managers are aware of these troubles.
On one forum, The Sims Game Info Hub, one community manager, EA_Cade, has acknowledged this issue and stated that they are well aware of the troubles that fans have been facing in The Sims Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Legacy Collection. To assure gamers further, he continued that the team is investigating this matter and will soon come back with fixes.
This assurance looks like patches are on the way. Well, there’s no other way to resolve these problems, such as game crashing issues or game features not functioning properly. The sooner these patches arrive, the better it will be for the gamers who have purchased The Sims 2 Legacy Collection.
Aside from this assurance, the community manager has requested players add “screenshots, videos, dxdiags, and (for TS1) vulkaninfo.exe files in your bug reports” to help the team understand and investigate specific issues.
Currently, The Sims 2 Legacy Collection costs $29.99 on Steam. Players who haven’t purchased it yet should wait for a while to get the patches first.
