Legion Go S (SteamOS) by Lenovo claims to challenge the industry kingmaker Steam Deck. Packed into power, ergonomics, and connectivity, the Legion Go S is trying to find its place in the gamer’s niche. But how does it stack up to the already anointed Steam Deck? Below is the comparison of the two.
The Legion Go S takes the lead in design with a thinner and lighter form factor and an advanced casing for hours of gaming. It also has two Thunderbolt 4 ports which supports charging and accessories connection at once, a thing that is missing in the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, the Legion Go S has only a single touchpad and this, most probably, will be apparently expected by the gamers who have known the Steam Deck’s touchpads.
The Legion Go S incorporates the AMD Z2 Go processor with RAM options for up to 16GB and storage options up to an SSD of 1TB. This results in a reasonable uplift in performance compared to the previous generation processors in the Steam Deck. However, detailed specification of the Legion Go S has not been disclosed yet; its SteamOS version will be available by May, 2025.
To the best of it, the Steam Deck seems to be faster as an old hardware despite the choices of LCD or OLED display. The OLED version is, of course, a little more expensive, but the picture quality is outstanding for the best gaming experience possible.
Legion Go S (SteamOS) from Lenovo is somewhat dearer at its launch than the Steam Deck. But its state of the art components and future-proof connectivity will probably be necessary for some gamers to foot the bill. The Steam Deck, in contrast, is a considerably cheaper device, starting at $475.99, and it can be purchased right now, while the Legion Go S is planned to be released only in mid-2025.
Legion Go S or Steam Deck? That is the question. It all comes down to what you value more. And the Legion Go S has mainly followed this up for extreme performance and elegant design. But if the affordability and availability are what matters the most, then of course, Steam Deck persists as a go-to option.
