Some categories to be solved appear at once, but others demand more logic and time.. Today’s grid provides the exact amount of challenge needed to maintain players' interest and satisfaction throughout the process, from beginning to end.
Each game provides a sixteen-square grid, full of fascinating words or phrases. The solver must find four sets of four terms, each tied together by one common theme.
There is only one possible solution, and the player will be allowed up to three incorrect answers before the game ends. Finished groups receive a color based on how difficult they were:
Yellow: CONTAINERS
Green: LAUNDRY SERVICES
Blue: BANDS FORMED IN THE 1970S, WITH ‘THE.’
Purple: ROCK _____
CONTAINERS: BUCKET, CAN, DRUM, TIN
LAUNRY SERVICES: DRY, FOLD, PRESS, WASH
BRITISH BANDS FORMED IN THE 1970S, WITH ‘THE’: CLASH, CURE, DAMNED, FALL
ROCK _____: BOTTOM, LOBSTER, MUSIC, SALT
Containers: BUCKET, CAN, DRUM, TIN
These four terms all denote different types of containers that are primarily used for the same purpose.
Laundry Services: DRY, FOLD, PRESS, WASH
All these terms indicate typical operations or services provided by a professional laundromat and also relate to laundry and clothing care.
British Bands Formed in the 1970s (With ‘The’): CLASH, CURE, DAMNED, FALL
The naming of each term is associated with a prominent British band formed in the 1970s.
Rock ____: BOTTOM, LOBSTER, MUSIC, SALT
Every single word is connected with the term ‘rock’ to create either a well-known phrase or a term formed from two words.

The NYT Connections puzzle is not about finding definitions that are obvious or superficial, but about spotting the very subtle relationships between words.
The grid is a mix of common words and allusions to various cultures, and it calls for a meticulous process of elimination and pattern recognition. The less complicated first color group is followed by the more abstract connections of the last one as one transitions through the different color groups.
The puzzle limits the number of tries while providing a rewarding blend of logic, vocabulary, and lateral thinking.
