LG recently unveiled its new UltraFine 6K monitor at CES 2025; this is among the first monitors to support the next-generation Thunderbolt 5 interface. Although Thunderbolt 5 has recently begun its slow integration into the consumer market, this LG offering capitalizes on it, providing doubled bandwidth with customizable functionalities for professionals and gamers. Here is how this display is different.
The LG UltraFine 6K features a 32-inch Nano IPS Black display with a 6K resolution and a color coverage of 98 % DCI-P3. It might be not an OLED panel, but Nano IPS Black technology provides the color gamut and acceptable contrast. Their lack of OLED may be a turn-off to those in search of depth blacks and precise color representation, However, by doing this, LG may make this monitor more affordable than high-end monitors such as the Apple Pro Display XDR which goes for $5,000.
The UltraFine 6K is thin with thin bezels and has been likened to the Apple Pro Display XDR. Full specifications have not been released yet but hint at a 120Hz refresh rate, which means the monitor will be suitable for both creatives and gamers.
The Thunderbolt 5 support is the feature that sets the LG UltraFine 6K display apart from others in the market today. This next-generation connectivity standard delivers up to 80 Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth, complex workflows such as output to two 8K monitors at 60Hz or one 6K monitor at 120Hz. For the creators, this leads to faster data transfer rates, smooth working across multiple displays and low latency which in turn are productivity boosters.
Even gamers will be able to experience the full potential of Thunderbolt 5 when the company synchronizes it with the display, GPUs, and other related accessories. Having such connection capabilities, the UltraFine 6K is capable of performing complex operations to guarantee a perfect experience to the users.
While it couldn’t achieve OLED technology, the LG UltraFine 6K is a progressive monitor for its Thunderbolt 5 and 6K A9 Pro IPS Display features. Although the specifics regarding its pricing and other features are yet to be unveiled, this monitor is set to provide a decent shot to professionals and enthusiasts who will crave high performance without having to spend big bucks.
