Sucker Punch Productions, the studio that has developed Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei, has laid off 26 workers. Reports say this layoff came as the studio is preparing for the next game. Sucker Punch sent emails to employees and cited that market conditions require them to size the team accordingly. That’s what resulted in the job cuts.

As the studio stated in the email, “After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we've decided to make some staffing reductions. Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result.” It further added, “We have extended the consultation period by one additional month as we explore options, including finding a partner to support the studio through the development work still ahead.”

What project the studio is currently working on is still unclear. However, players assume it may be a card-based game. Even players want the studio to bring Infamous and Sly Cooper back. The studio, however, said nothing about the future projects.

The job cuts come soon after Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition arrived on October 1, 2026. The release added the story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara and other content to the PS5 game. Sucker Punch has not yet announced its next title. The studio has said it plans to share more about its future plans, but it has not given a clear date for that update.

How Layoffs Affect Experienced Game Developers

Job cuts always make it hard for artists, designers, and other skilled workers who have created unforgettable games. They struggle to find the same role elsewhere. Finding a new role is not always quick, and it’s equally true for those who have worked on renowned titles. Their skills remain valuable, but open jobs may not match their past work or pay.

Sucker Punch has not yet shared details about its next game. For now, the focus will be on the studio's future plans and the workers who must find their next role.
