Battlefield 6 has been a big win for EA, as in 2025, when most first-person shooter games were struggling, Battlefield 6 sold 7 million copies, competing with contemporary Call of Duty entries. This success offered the company long-awaited financial growth, but the people who developed the game faced an unexpected fate. EA laid off a large part of the team. The numbers weren’t ever disclosed, but reports said the entire team was wiped out.

However, on July 29, EA revealed its Form 10-K/A SEC filing, which shows that the success of Battlefield 6 has paid off for the company's CEO, Andrew Wilson. His total compensation for the company's 2026 fiscal year was $38,649,984, which is an $8 million increase over his 2025 pay. In the last two years, the CEO’s made a jump of around $13 million, with bonuses and bonus modifiers added to the base pay.

Reportedly, the layoffs were part of a larger plan to reduce costs and reshape the business. However, the situation has once again raised questions about how success is shared inside large game companies. Developers spend years making a game, but many still face job cuts after launch.

A Problem Seen Across the Industry

EA is not the only company facing this criticism; Microsoft closed the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, even though the game received praise from players and critics. The Marvel Rivals team also went through job cuts and changes after the game's release. Companies like Embracer and Ubisoft have also announced layoffs while continuing work on major projects.

Many publishers say these decisions are needed because game development has become more expensive. Still, many developers feel that strong game sales should also bring better job security.

Success Should Mean More Than Higher Profits

Battlefield 6 proves that great games can still make a lot of money. However, the discussion around the game is no longer only about sales. It is also about the people who helped make that success possible.

As the gaming industry continues to grow, many players hope companies will find a better balance between business goals and supporting the teams behind their biggest games.
