Perplexity AI users have complained that the platform’s weekly ‘advanced AI’ limits are running out faster than before. Several subscribers said they hit usage caps after only a few prompts, despite using the service normally.

Complaints appeared across Reddit and X over the past week. Some users said they previously used the Pro plan throughout the week without issues but are now seeing restrictions much earlier. Others claimed document uploads and research queries consumed limits faster than expected.

Many users said the problem is not the cap itself, but the absence of clear usage tracking. Subscribers argued that Perplexity is not properly explaining which actions consume advanced AI credits or how the system calculates usage.

Perplexity Links Changes to Abuse of Promotional Plans

Perplexity has acknowledged the issue and said some accounts are now under renewed usage restrictions. According to reports, the company blamed misuse of promotional subscriptions and discount codes.

The startup said it found cases where promo access was allegedly being shared or resold. In response, it introduced tighter controls on certain accounts tied to promotional offers. Perplexity also said users who believe they were wrongly affected can contact support for a review.

The explanation did not satisfy many subscribers. Users online said the company did not clearly announce the changes before they took effect. Some argued that paid subscribers deserve clearer communication when service limits are changed.

Questions Over Premium AI Access

Perplexity’s paid plans offer access to advanced models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. These models power features such as research summaries, document analysis and reasoning-based responses.

Users now say it is difficult to understand how different tasks affect their weekly quota. Several subscribers claimed longer prompts and file uploads appear to consume limits more aggressively than standard searches.

The issue reflects a wider problem facing AI companies. Advanced AI tools require expensive computing infrastructure, forcing platforms to manage heavy usage through soft caps and restrictions.

Perplexity has expanded rapidly in the AI search market over the past year. The company has promoted its Pro subscription as a way to access multiple leading AI models through a single platform.

The latest backlash shows that users are willing to accept limits if companies explain them clearly. Many subscribers are frustrated by sudden changes and limited transparency rather than restrictions.
