Optimism’s OP token surged 10.72% in an hour to USD 0.1157 as 24-hour trading volume reached USD 5.57 million. Meanwhile, Optimism governance advanced Upgrade 20 toward mainnet execution. OP also gained 20.14% over 24 hours as many other altcoins traded sideways.
OP was trading near USD 0.1045 before the rapid hourly move. The token reached its 24-hour high of USD 0.1157 after touching a low of USD 0.0995. The advance placed OP near the USD 0.12 level, which traders are watching as resistance.
At the same time, Optimism approved Upgrade 20 on September 16. The upgrade shifts the network’s fault-proof system toward an architecture designed to support future Superchain interoperability.
OP’s 10.72% hourly gain separated it from much of the altcoin market during the same period. Its 24-hour advance reached 20.14%, while trading volume totaled USD 5,573,992.9.
The price increase moved OP from around USD 0.1045 to USD 0.1157 within about 60 minutes. This placed the token at its reported daily high. The cited market levels put nearby support around USD 0.10.
Traders are also monitoring USD 0.12 as the next resistance level. A move above that price would take OP beyond the stated resistance area. A decline below USD 0.10 would place it under the cited support level.
The available market data does not establish a direct link between the rally and Upgrade 20. Both developments occurred during the same period as attention centered on Optimism’s token and network changes.
Optimism governance completed voting on Upgrade 20 on September 16. The network targeted September 17 for contract upgrades on OP Sepolia, Ink Sepolia, Soneium Minato, and Unichain Sepolia.
Optimism targets September 24 for mainnet execution if the new system completes a healthy seven-day testnet soak. The change moves fault proofs from Output Root Dispute Games to Super Root Dispute Games.
That transition changes how OP Stack chains challenge incorrect state before withdrawals finalize on Ethereum. Existing Output Root games connect a claim to an L2 block number. Super Root games instead use a timestamp.
The timestamp provides the common time reference that a future multi-chain dispute system will require. Optimism describes the change as a prerequisite for interoperability across the Superchain.
Upgrade 20 does not activate full cross-chain interoperability. Each chain keeps separate dispute infrastructure, while every new game continues to contain the Output Root of a single chain.

Optimism aims to complete the dispute-system transition before activating cross-chain interoperability. This structure allows the network to prepare its security layer before introducing future multi-chain functionality.
Upgrade 20 also changes Optimism’s contracts manager and SystemConfig. The release adds safeguards around upgrade sequencing and removes legacy configuration functions after issues emerged during Upgrade 19.
The new Super Root games also introduce different game types. Permissioned chains move to game type 5, while permissionless fault-proof deployments use game type 9.
These changes prepare the fault-proof architecture for a future system where Super Roots can represent multiple chains at the same timestamp. For now, each dispute game continues to cover one chain.
Meanwhile, OP remains near the upper end of its reported daily range. The token’s day low stands at USD 0.0995, while USD 0.1157 represents its stated high and current price.
The stated market levels place resistance around USD 0.12 and support near USD 0.10. Traders are monitoring those levels while Optimism moves Upgrade 20 through its testnet and planned mainnet schedule.
