Apple is ramping up iPhone manufacturing in India ahead of the global sales launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with locally assembled units already being shipped to overseas markets. Several chartered flights have reportedly departed from Chennai carrying the new premium iPhones, as Apple works to ensure sufficient supply when sales begin on September 18.
The development marks a new stage in Apple’s India manufacturing strategy. For the first time, India-made Pro and Pro Max models are expected to be available in international markets from day one of global sales. The standard iPhone 17 reached overseas markets on launch day last year, but Apple’s Pro models previously entered Indian production later in the cycle.
Two Indian facilities are currently producing the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: one operated by Foxconn and another by Tata Electronics. According to reports, the factories have been working around the clock as Apple prepares for launch demand.
The manufacturing capacity could also increase further. According to reports, the number of assembly lines could eventually approach 12, depending on demand in international markets. Apple has not publicly disclosed production volumes or confirmed how many units it allocates to individual countries.
Around 80-90% of India’s Pro-series output is reportedly expected to be exported, with the US identified as a major destination. The figure is a reported production estimate rather than an Apple-confirmed shipment target.
Speed has become a key part of Apple’s launch logistics. Several chartered aircraft have reportedly carried India-made iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units from Chennai to international markets ahead of the September 18 sales date.
The US is expected to account for a significant portion of these shipments. India has increasingly become an important source of iPhone exports to the US as Apple expands manufacturing outside China. Industry analysts cited by India Today estimate that about 26% of all iPhones shipped globally in 2026 could be made in India.

Apple’s expanding Pro-series manufacturing in India adds to a production ecosystem that already includes assembly, testing, enclosures, selected mechanical components, battery packs, chargers, cables, packaging and other subassemblies. However, several high-value components, including displays, camera modules, memory and advanced semiconductors, continue to be sourced from outside India.
The latest shipments also highlight how India's role is changing from primarily serving the domestic market to supporting Apple’s international supply chain. With Pro and Pro Max models now entering global distribution from day one, Indian factories are becoming part of the launch-time production network rather than a later-stage manufacturing base.
