Microsoft Joins OpenAI Board as an Observer
Microsoft is the largest investor in OpenAI, the AI research lab that created the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT.
Microsoft and OpenAI have a deep partnership that aims to build the best systems and models for AI developers.
Microsoft may take a non-voting observer seat on the nonprofit board that oversees OpenAI, if Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, is reinstated.
Altman was fired by the board earlier this month after a dispute over the direction and governance of OpenAI.
Altman is reportedly considering launching a new AI company that could compete with Nvidia in the chip market.
