AI Could Be Fatal, But Sam Altman Still Urges the World to Embrace It
Sam Altman believes that the technology underlying his company's most renowned product might lead to the abolition of human civilization.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman entered a Senate subcommittee hearing room in Washington, DC, in May, with an urgent plea to lawmakers.
Altman stated in his congressional testimony that the possibility for AI to be used to sway voters and target misinformation was one of "my areas of greatest concern."
Two weeks after the hearing, Altman signed a petition with hundreds of other prominent AI scientists, academics, and business executives
The petition declares "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war."
