According to a research study by McKinsey, 89% of the senior management community recognize a drastic change in the requirements of leadership over the last three years. Key trends for 2025 are adaptability amidst unpredictability, the outdated organizational chart is becoming obsolete, and the practice of leadership is no longer centered on the individual's title/position. Leadership of the 2020s and beyond means leading with influence through 21st-century skills such as emotional intelligence, digital empathy, a growth mindset, and diverse and varied technical expertise.
An example of this is Khushboo Yadav from India, who is a Software Enabling & Optimization Engineer for Intel, an example of a next-generation leader profile. Her impressive work has been recognized on a global scale as she won the American Business Expo Award 2025. Being a successful leader who has led multi-functional groups, she is well aware of the growth needed for leadership.
"Leadership wasn't something I ever aspired to," Khushboo says. "Being an indispensable expert was my aim. In today's tech industry, leadership is more about influence, rather than about titles and positions," Khushboo continues. "Being able to solve tough problems and communicate the importance of those problems to the team makes someone a leader."
She began her path to leadership during her college days, before joining a multinational tech firm. While many people pursue management positions directly, she focused on building deep expertise in her field.
"My technical skills, although theoretical at that time, laid the necessary foundation for understanding complex topics and the architectures of various Intel platforms," says Khushboo Yadav. "So I would say that soft skills are not enough when speaking about leadership qualities. While they're widely emphasized, in-depth knowledge of the subject and strong academic foundations are essential for becoming an effective leader."
After graduation, Khushboo applied her theoretical knowledge at Intel Technology India as a GPU software developer. It was an extremely competitive and high-tech environment where precision was critical, as errors could have significant consequences. Her initial role involved being the key point of contact for major product customers regarding critical issues pertaining to graphics.
It is in this role that her style of leadership emerged. Khushboo realized that a reactive mindset in problem-solving was not feasible in the long run and took a proactive approach. This mindset change affected her approach to responsibility.
Evidence of her professional leadership skills was shown through her critical contributions to public projects, such as making sure the designs were ready for Intel’s premium customers for the award-winning CES demos in 2020 and 2021. This was her defining moment from being a sole doer to a team leader, ensuring prevention over reaction.
Achieving "Zero Blockers" for the launch of key Intel partner products like laptops and gaming devices marked a personal achievement for Khushboo, as it was not a project/initiative from Intel but a personal goal that she achieved.
It marked a first-ever occasion for one or two decades that such a flawless launch quality had been achieved. This personal success factor served as a landmark in Khushboo’s award-winning event, as she was recognized as "The Winner in "Product of The Year" award for Software Development at American Business Expo 2025."
Khushboo emphasizes that this accomplishment reflects a different approach to leadership. "I couldn't simply tell people to work faster," she notes. "I needed to show, convince, and lead through data and technical expertise. This showed that leadership in high-tech is earned through knowledge that produces results, not through authority."
Khushboo's work extends beyond Intel. As an active member of the AITEX organization, which brings together technologists from industry leaders such as Google, Oracle, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and Snap, she works on cross-industry innovation and technology standards.
Active in the technical community, Khushboo has organized numerous events and workshops for customers to help them resolve graphics issues faster.
"The future, I believe, lies in integrations, shared objectives, and large-scale projects," Khushboo Yadav asserts. "The world is growing more connected, and boundaries are becoming less relevant. We must work together, rather than operating in isolation. Only through such collaboration can real progress can be made."
