  • Getting an Aadhaar for your newborn is now easier than ever, thanks to UIDAI’s simplified child enrolment process. Babies below five years only need a photograph, no biometrics, making it quick and stress-free for parents.

  • With the UIDAI’s updated guidelines ensuring accurate identification, families can initiate the Aadhaar process online, book an appointment, and complete the enrollment at the center in just a few steps.

  • Once completed, your child’s Aadhaar will facilitate access to essential services, healthcare records, and future documentation needs.

UIDAI has been making things convenient for Indian citizens, at least when it comes to Aadhaar. While online Aadhaar registration now takes only a few seconds, the UIDAI has introduced a simple method for parents to enroll their newborn babies for Aadhaar early in life.

The latest update says that children under five can have a Baal Aadhaar, which can be issued using demographic information and a soft photograph only. No fingerprints or iris scans are involved in this process.

In India, an Aadhaar card is a crucial form of identification. From hospitals to insurance and travel, everywhere Aadhaar is recognized as a valid ID. Therefore, your child should have Aadhaar registration. If you are unsure about how to enroll your child, the following is a step-by-step process.

Why Should You Apply for Aadhaar for Your Newborn Baby?

The enrollment process isn’t tough, but first, parents should understand why Aadhaar is important for infants. UIDAI has brought certain procedures to maintain secure identification. Therefore, below are the matters where a child's Aadhaar can help:

  • While applying for government healthcare benefits

  • Hospital or insurance documentation

  • School admissions later

  • Travel and passport applications

  • Maintaining digital identity from birth

For children under 5, Aadhaar will be issued without the need for biometrics. However, it is completely valid. The verification process includes verifying the authenticity of the parents’ Aadhaar and ensuring the child’s identity is securely linked. When the child turns 5, they need a proper Aadhaar card, and after 15, it should be updated.

Now that you are aware of the importance, it’s time to know what documents you need to move forward. Ensure you have the below documents:

  • Baby’s birth certificate

  • Aadhaar of at least one parent

  • Address proof

If you have all the documents in hand, you can start the online registration process.
