Apple could enter the smart glasses market in 2027. A new report has revealed that the company already has a smart glasses product in the pipeline that puts security and privacy at the center. While Apple has not confirmed the product, reports claim it wants to offer useful smart features without collecting too much personal data.
According to the rumors, the Cupertino-based tech giant is taking a different route from its rivals. It’s reportedly planning to have on-device processing, which will prevent any data from being sent to any other server. Above all other features, the Apple glasses will probably avoid facial-recognition and always-on recording features, which brought the most backlash to rival companies.
Additionally, the Apple glasses will probably come without any camera, or even if there’s one, it won’t capture photos or videos, but only sense motion. The glasses are expected to be revealed at WWDC in June 2027. The glasses are rumored to work with other Apple devices, but privacy will remain a key part of the experience from day one.
Privacy has become a big issue in the smart glasses market, especially Meta’s camera-based AI smart glasses. These glasses have raised concerns about people being recorded without consent.
The backlash has spread across the world, with Instagram head Adam Mosseri responding against it, saying, “If you’re posting content that is taking advantage of people and harassing them, like a lot of these pickup line kind of videos that we’ve heard of and seen, then we’re going to take the content down.”
He further added, “We don’t want people to be surreptitiously taking videos of other people and harassing them and then posting them on our platform. So we’re trying to fight that every way we can.”

Apple appears to be avoiding those problems. Reports suggest the company wants to make its smart glasses more open about how they work. If the glasses include cameras or sensors, users and the people around them may get clear signs when they are active. This could help Apple build trust before the product reaches the market.
This may mean the product will have fewer attention-grabbing features, but it could be a better choice for many people. As more companies enter the smart glasses market, Apple seems to believe that trust and privacy will matter just as much as new technology. A device that protects user data could become its biggest strength.
