How to Do a UPI Payment Without Internet

Using USSD Code: *99#: You can make UPI payments offline through the *99# USSD service offered by NPCI. Dial *99# from your phone, choose “Send Money,” and enter the recipient’s UPI ID, mobile number, or bank account. Approve with your UPI PIN to finish the transaction offline.

Send Money via UPI ID (USSD-Based): Through the *99# menu, select the option to send money using a UPI ID. Enter the recipient’s UPI handle and the amount. This works even on basic phones. Once confirmed with your UPI PIN, the NPCI system processes the payment securely without needing internet access.

Send Money via Mobile Number (USSD): USSD allows sending money directly to a UPI-registered mobile number. Choose “Send Money,” then “Mobile Number,” and enter the recipient’s number, amount, and your UPI PIN. It is useful when internet connectivity is poor or unavailable, enabling smooth offline payments.

Send Money via Bank Account & IFSC (USSD): You can transfer money offline using account details by selecting the *99# “Send Money” option. Enter the bank account number, IFSC code, and amount. Authenticate with your UPI PIN to complete the transaction. This method helps when the receiver doesn’t have a UPI ID.

Request Money (USSD Feature): The *99# service also allows requesting money without internet. Select “Request Money,” enter the payer’s mobile number or UPI ID, and send the request. The payer receives a prompt to approve. It enables easy offline handling of payments in emergencies or low-network areas.

Check UPI Balance Offline: To check your UPI balance offline, dial *99# and choose “Check Balance.” Enter your UPI PIN, and NPCI fetches your account details instantly. This option helps confirm available funds before transactions, especially when you are in areas with weak or no internet access.

UPI Lite Offline Mode (For Small Payments): UPI Lite Offline Mode lets you make small-value payments without internet using an on-device balance. Supported by several banks, it allows instant payments within the allowed limit. It’s ideal for quick offline purchases in remote or low-network locations.
