WhatsApp is bringing a new update for iOS users. The platform is about to roll out a new ‘Ask Meta AI’ shortcut on iOS devices, where users will be able to send queries to Meta AI directly from within chats. Testing has begun in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.26.10.71 via TestFlight.
Once introduced, the AI feature will give users a convenient way to clarify, fact-check, or get more information about certain messages without leaving the chat. Currently, the feature is in an early stage and will gradually roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
The ‘Ask Meta AI’ functionality is under testing right now for iOS users. Reports say, this new AI feature will enable WhatsApp users to open Meta AI directly on the chat using the shortcut, where the original message will be quoted as a reference. Before sending anything to the AI assistant, users can mention what they want, like clarification, explanation or meaning of that specific message.
At the same time, WhatsApp has made it clear that Meta AI won’t see the inbox messages unless something is asked of it. Tapping on the shortcut won’t send any message to the AI. Users have to select the message and provide context before sending. This approach maintains privacy and strengthens user trust in the platform.
The exact rollout date for the update has not been announced yet, but hopefully, once the testing phase will be over, WhatsApp will launch the update globally for iOS users. With ‘Ask Meta AI,’ users can fact-check or interpret content within the chat box without leaving the conversation.

As per the reports, on iOS, the shortcut will appear if users long press one text. Once that’s done, the familiar options menu will appear. Alongside forward, reply, and star, the update will add another option, ‘Ask Meta AI.’ This will open a fresh AI conversation window where the quoted message will be visible. Once users prompt what they want, AI will show them results accordingly.
Notably, users can interact with Meta AI like any other standalone chat box and ask it to analyze, fact-check, or explain the highlighted content. Importantly, nothing from the chat will be shared automatically. Therefore, the chatbot will not expose any content without explicit permission.
The introduction of an AI shortcut within WhatsApp marks a significant step in integrating artificial intelligence into daily communication. The Meta AI integration in the chat box will come with better chat flow, reducing misinformation and providing instant clarity.
The privacy-first approach seems reassuring, but whether the outcome will be positive or negative will depend on how users have been using this AI feature. Even the accuracy and transparency of the chatbot is still in question.
