WhatsApp is opening its Events feature to people who do not use the app. Hosts can now send an event link by text message, email, or any other messaging app. Guests open the link in a browser, read the details, and reply without installing anything. The move should make it easier to plan gatherings across different platforms.
Guests outside WhatsApp can choose Going, Maybe, or Not going. They first enter their name, country, and mobile number. A verification code then confirms their identity. WhatsApp is also adding an Events Home to keep invitations, replies, and upcoming plans together. Both additions will reach users over the coming weeks.
The Events Home will sit inside Settings. It will list events that a user has created or received invitations for, including past and upcoming ones. Hosts can also customize invitations, send reminders, and let guests bring extra attendees.
Until now, most event planning happened inside group chats. Important details often got buried under everyday messages. A separate hub gives hosts and guests a cleaner way to follow invitations and attendance. It could also make WhatsApp more useful for planning beyond existing group conversations.
WhatsApp has added a few privacy measures for external invitations. A host's phone number stays hidden from guests who do not know them. Guests without accounts can see the venue address only after they send an RSVP.
The company describes its goal as a 'one-stop shop' for creating and managing events. It also confirmed that personal messages and calls will keep end-to-end encryption. These steps aim to make outside invitations easy while keeping personal details safe.
The updated Events feature will reach users worldwide over the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not shared a final date for the full rollout. The change also gives the platform a new way to connect with people beyond its own user base.
