Vivo Vision Discovery Edition could make mixed reality easier to wear. The headset has not been announced in India yet, but selected people got the chance to try this gadget out at the Vivo Next event. The headset weighs just 398g, much lighter than it looks, and the best part is it looks like ski goggles.

The gadget has soft straps at the back and several cameras on the front and bottom. It uses two 8K Micro-OLED screens for videos, menus and other content around the user. Regarding the specifications, the headset runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip and Vivo’s OriginOS Vision.

A recent demo has shown videos with a strong sense of depth. It could also create a large virtual screen for watching regular videos. Users will have a button near the right temple that they can press to bring up the Home menu. The navigation process is also easy. Users pinch their thumb and index finger to highlight and hover over Home menu items. It also comes with a small battery pack that can fit in a pocket. Vivo offers different padding, light seals, and prescription lens options for a better fit.

The lightweight design is one of the most interesting parts of the Vivo Vision. During a short wear period, it didn't cause major eye strain or headaches. The soft straps also helped with the fit. This matters for people who want to use an XR headset for longer periods. The demo showed a few issues with window controls and setup that Vivo may be able to improve through updates.

Vivo Lets Indians Try it Without a Sale Date

Vivo has not confirmed when, or if, the Vision Discovery Edition will go on sale in India. For now, the company is allowing people to experience the headset at selected demos. This gives Vivo a chance to show its XR plans to Indian users without making a sales promise. It also lets people see how the headset feels before the company decides its next step in the market.

The Vivo Vision Discovery Edition is still an early product, but its 398g weight is a strong point. Its sharp screens, hand controls, and lighter design could make mixed reality more comfortable for everyday users.
