Vivo is reportedly developing a compact wide-foldable smartphone that could challenge Apple’s rumored iPhone Duo and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. Unlike the larger foldable devices expected from its rivals, Vivo’s reported offering could feature an inner display under 6.5 inches.
According to a PhoneArena report citing tipster Digital Chat Station, the Chinese smartphone maker is working on a new foldable design that could arrive in early 2027. Vivo has not officially confirmed the device or disclosed its specifications.
The reported device could feature an inner screen smaller than 6.5 inches, while its cover display may measure less than 4 inches. The exact dimensions have not been revealed.
This would make Vivo’s foldable noticeably smaller than the devices it is reportedly targeting. The approach could appeal to users who want a foldable phone but find existing book-style models too large to carry comfortably.
The report also suggests that the internal bezels could be thicker, while the cover screen may have comparatively narrow bezels. However, these details remain unconfirmed.
The iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 are both tipped to feature 7.6-inch inner displays. Their outer screens are reportedly expected to measure 5.4 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively.
If Vivo sticks to the reported dimensions, its device would offer a considerably smaller viewing area on both screens. This could give the company a distinct position in the wide-foldable segment, where larger displays have been a major focus.
The report points to Huawei’s Pura X View as a possible reference for Vivo’s approach. The device features a 6.39-inch display and a 5:3 aspect ratio.
A similar screen folded in half could result in a 5:6 aspect ratio, offering a wider viewing format than conventional smartphones. This design could also offer a different experience for apps such as Instagram and TikTok.

Digital Chat Station reportedly expects the compact foldable to arrive in early 2027. Vivo has yet to confirm its launch timeline, pricing, hardware specifications, or market availability.
For now, the device remains a reported development. More details are needed to understand how Vivo plans to position it against Apple’s and Samsung’s upcoming foldables.
