VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially entered the Indian market with two new SUVs, the VF6 and VF7. The VinFast India launch took place during the festive season, with the company also showing its long-term plan for India.

VF6 starts at Rs. 16.49 lakh while the VF7 model comes at Rs. 20.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Both SUVs stand out with powerful batteries and enormous driving ranges. VF6 features a 59.6 kWh battery, which claims a 468 km range on a single charge. The VF7 comes with a larger 70.8 kWh battery, delivering a claimed range of 532 km. Both models support fast charging.

Inside, the cars feature large infotainment screens, panoramic glass roofs, vegan interiors, and advanced safety features like Level 2 ADAS. The VF7 also brings extra space and luxury for families. VinFast is also offering strong warranties. The VF6 is guaranteed for seven years or 2 lakh km, while the VF7 is guaranteed for ten years or 2 lakh km.

Factory, Dealerships, and Future Plans

The cars are being built at VinFast’s new factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This plant has an initial annual capacity of 50,000 units. The company plans to expand to 1.5 lakh units later. In addition to India, the factory will also supply other markets in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

VinFast’s CEO for Asia, Pham Sanh Chau, said the company is betting on India’s fast-growing EV sector. He also shared plans for building a strong ecosystem in the country. This will include charging stations, service partnerships, and even battery recycling. Buyers will also get free charging and maintenance till 2028.

The brand plans to open 35 dealerships this year across major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Customers can book with a refundable amount of Rs. 21,000.

Beyond cars, VinFast wants to launch electric two-wheelers and buses in India. The parent group, Vingroup, is also exploring smart city projects and clean energy in the country.

The entry of VinFast shakes up India’s electric car market. By offering a wide range of premium features and lower prices than global players like Tesla, the company has positioned itself as a strong new rival to Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai.

VinFast’s move could speed up India’s shift to green mobility. It also offers more choice for buyers seeking affordable yet premium electric SUVs.
