Tesla has big plans to build a complete electric vehicle (EV) network in India. The company wants to make it easier for people to own and use EVs and increase its sales over the long term.

Since entering India earlier this year, Tesla has been focusing on installing charging stations at homes, malls, hotels, and key city locations. The plan also includes fast superchargers in metro cities to make long trips easier with minimal charging.

Expanding Charging and Experience Centres

The company has opened experience centres in Mumbai and Delhi. These centers help people learn about Tesla cars and understand EV technology. A new supercharger is also planned in Gurugram. This will be the fourth major charging station in India. Tesla wants the charging network to suit people’s everyday routines.

Model Y Sales and Future Plans

Tesla currently imports its Model Y cars from Shanghai, with prices starting at Rs. 59.89 lakh and Rs. 67.89 lakh because import duties add almost 30% to the cost. Even with high prices, Tesla sold 109 cars after starting deliveries in September 2025. The EV manufacturer is now focused on building charging stations, showrooms, and service centres. Local manufacturing is not yet planned, but the company is laying the foundation for future growth.

Tesla's India General Manager, Sharad Agarwal, said EVs can help improve air quality in heavily polluted cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Electric vehicles can lower harmful emissions and help turn cities greener. Tesla’s vehicles have already helped reduce more than 32 million tonnes of carbon emissions globally.

India is the 50th country in the world where Tesla has officially entered. The company plans to establish a robust EV infrastructure in the country to facilitate the use of electric vehicles, attract more customers, and sustain long-term sales. The firm's strategy combines providing comfort, leveraging technology, and promoting eco-friendliness to make EVs part of everyday life in India.
