Roblox shares fell more than 17% in premarket trading on Friday after the company released its third-quarter results. The fall came after the Q3 results showed that the daily user count has fallen significantly. Roblox reported 138 million daily active users, while analysts had expected 145.77 million. However, there was a bright spot. Players spent 34 billion hours on the platform during the quarter, higher than the expected 32.99 billion hours.
According to reports, the company’s revenue reached USD 1.57 billion, up 16% from the same period last year. Moreover, it did better than the market estimate of USD 1.46 billion. Its loss per share came in at USD 0.32, compared with the expected loss of USD 0.43.
However, the bookings fell massively, a downfall of 12% year over year to USD 1.70 billion. Additionally, the company failed to offer an optimistic outlook for the next quarter. It expects bookings between USD 1.89 billion and USD 2 billion, which is again below the USD 2.01 billion estimate. The company also expects a wider net loss than analysts had forecast.

The more players spend time on a platform, the chances are high that they pay for in-game items, which ultimately adds to the company’s revenue. For now, Roblox can try to earn more from its current players through in-game purchases and paid experiences. However, this approach has limits, and if user growth becomes weak, the company will find it hard to increase sales over time.
This could also affect advertisers and game creators. Advertisers want access to a large audience, while creators need active players who are willing to spend on their work. Investors, meanwhile, will want to see steady growth in both users and revenue.
Roblox still has a highly active player base and growing revenue. However, the latest results show that strong engagement alone may not be enough. The company needs to attract more users and turn their activity into regular spending to regain investor confidence.
