The OpenAI health guidance report highlights an increasing use of AI to understand the administrative aspects of our healthcare systems. Between 1.6 million and 1.9 million messages are recorded weekly, specifically targeting health insurance issues, such as billing disputes and plan comparisons. According to this study, the health-based queries of daily ChatGPT users often peak outside the standard clinic hours. The report also states that 55% of GPT users chose AI for health information, be it checking for symptoms or before a doctor visit. Clinicians are also adopting this trend, with 66% of U.S. physicians using AI to simplify documentation while reducing burnout. This joint adoption by patients and providers signals a major shift in how medical knowledge will be accessed and shared globally in the near future.
While the numbers are impressive, ChatGPT's medical advice usage is not without its safety concerns. OpenAI admits ‘hallucinations’ or incorrect facts might still come up, especially in cases of sensitive matters like mental health.
