Japanese investment firm, Metaplanet (3350), has announced the second round of issuance of $25 million bonds for EVO FUND to invest in its aggressive bitcoin (BTC) accumulation strategy. The shift arrives soon after Metaplanet sold a similar tranche to a similar buyer, thus demonstrating how committed the company is to amassing more Bitcoins.
The Tokyo-based firm revealed that it has raised $25 million through zero-coupon bonds, which will mature on November 6. The bonds carry no interest, and the funds will be allocated to further Bitcoin purchases. This new round follows a recent $25 million bond sale to the same buyer, EVO FUND, as part of Metaplanet's strategic push to increase its crypto portfolio.
CEO Simon Gerovich highlighted the company's continued dedication to Bitcoin with the latest acquisition of 555 BTC, valued at $53.5 million. According to Bitcoin Treasuries, this brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 5,555 BTC, making it the largest public holder of Bitcoin outside North America.
Metaplanet’s strategic Bitcoin buying appears to be paying off. The firm’s BTC yield has shown significant growth in recent quarters. Year-to-date for 2025, the company reported a BTC yield of 136.7%. This performance has contributed to a substantial rise in Metaplanet’s stock, which increased by 11.5%, closing at 477 yen ($3.33) on Wednesday.
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin holdings are now valued at over $536 million. The company's cost to acquire these coins is around $481.5 million, averaging to $86,672 per BTC. This strategic build-up has portrayed Metaplanet as one of the leading cryptocurrencies in the world hinting that they will continue to invest heavily in Bitcoin.
Metaplanet’s big Bitcoin strategy goes beyond accumulation. The firm disclosed the move to launch Metaplanet Treasury Corp., a U.S.-based subsidiary dedicated to Bitcoin acquisition.
This aligns with the firm’s plans to sell another $250 million worth of bonds to expand further. Metaplanet is tapping into U.S. capital markets to grow further on its Bitcoin-focused trajectory.
