Jeff Bezos plans to raise $100 billion for a new investment fund to acquire companies in major industrial sectors and modernize them with artificial intelligence. A new report from The Wall Street Journal suggests the move signals an aggressive push to apply AI at scale in manufacturing and engineering.

Fund Linked to Project Prometheus

The proposed fund is tied directly to Bezos’s AI startup, Project Prometheus, where he serves as co-founder and co-CEO alongside former Google executive Vik Bajaj. The venture launched with $6.2 billion in funding and focuses on building advanced AI models to improve industrial productivity.

Sources say the fund will help Prometheus deploy its technology inside acquired firms. The strategy aims to boost automation, streamline production, and improve engineering efficiency across legacy businesses.

Aerospace, Chips and Defence in Focus

The fund plans to target companies in aerospace, semiconductor manufacturing, and defense. These sectors require significant capital investment and face increasing pressure to modernize their operations. By combining ownership with AI deployment, Bezos wants to accelerate transformation in industries that still rely on traditional processes.

Analysts say the approach reflects a wider shift in the tech world. Investors now see industrial AI as the next major frontier after software and consumer platforms.

Global Investor Outreach Underway

Bezos has already begun meeting potential investors in Singapore and the Middle East to secure commitments. Sovereign wealth funds and large institutions are expected to play a key role, given the scale of the proposed fund.

Expanding His AI Bet Beyond Amazon

The effort marks a significant expansion of Bezos’ focus on AI since stepping back from daily leadership at Amazon. While he continues to back ventures in space and logistics, Project Prometheus shows his intent to reshape manufacturing through technology.

If the fund materialises, it could become one of the largest attempts yet to use AI to overhaul industrial companies and redefine how private capital drives technological change.
