iPhone 17’s highly anticipated launch hasn’t gone well since the mega event. Reportedly, within days of the global launch, the new iPhone series is facing serious issues of connectivity. Frequent call drops and unstable internet connections are common issues faced by customers across various carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and MVNOs. 

The major concern is that these issues aren’t limited to the base model. There were problems evident with the Pro models as well. While this immediately brings into question the real-world reliability of iPhone 17, Apple has recognized these concerns and said it is working on resolving them.

What are Users Experiencing?

iPhone 17 users are flooding social media platforms and forums looking for solutions. Reports say that most complaints state that calls get dropped without any reason or prior warning. Along with that, some users faced an abrupt switch between 4G and 5G networks, without any intervention or instruction. 

Interestingly, the Pro models, which have larger antennas, aren't immune to this trouble. Users noted that iPhone 17 showed full signal bars, and suddenly it experienced a service drop, resulting in call disconnections and texts not being sent. 

An Apple Senior Advisor acknowledged that Apple is aware of these connectivity issues and the company is trying to find solutions as soon as possible. The scenario gets more complicated when users start reporting that even resetting the network and reinstalling the eSIM didn’t work for them. 

Some even stated that Apple Support has suggested they return the device. This highlights the complexity of the situation, indicating that it cannot be resolved easily through standard troubleshooting steps.

Possible Reasons Behind the Connectivity Issues

The root cause of these issues has not yet been clarified. However, based on the troubles already reported, users speculate these are software problems, as these issues seem to vary based on carriers and regions.  An interesting report came from a user who experienced better performance after upgrading to iOS 26 developer beta update, which strengthens the software issue speculation further.  

Among the other reasons responsible for the call drop and connectivity problems may include  Apple's own homebrew N1 wireless chip. It was introduced alongside the iPhone 17 series and caters to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. 

Apart from these two, users have been reporting a few more troubles, including intermittent Wi-Fi dropouts, especially when the phone is locked. This trouble is potentially linked to the new chip, and it is getting troublesome, especially for those who rely on wireless CarPlay, which needs a solid Wi-Fi connection.

Is Apple Failing to Address the Issue?

With the widespread nature of these connectivity problems, the most critical part involves Apple's quality control and the company's approach towards user complaints. While the tech giant has acknowledged all these issues and promised a quick solution, customers are not completely satisfied. High-end models, such as iPhone 17 Pro Max, experiencing these issues serve as a major warning, indicating that these are not isolated cases but rather systemic issues.

Apple's action to resolve these bugs and glitches will play an important role in retaining consumer trust. The company must quickly identify the root cause of the problem and take necessary actions. Otherwise, it will stain its reputation globally, even after bringing a flagship model to market.
