Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, especially the stunning Cosmic Orange models, are in the news, but not because of new enhancements. Numerous users are complaining about a rather unexpected effect: their previously bright orange iPhones are slowly fading into pink.
The phenomenon, trending on all social media sites such as Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok, has left consumers mystified and worried about the durability of Apple’s high-end finish.
The discoloration seems to occur predominantly on the anodized aluminum body, but the rear glass remains largely unaltered. Industry experts believe that exposure to chemicals, particularly to cleaning agents containing peroxides, would be responsible for the removal of the protective oxide layer on the aluminum, which in turn would result in fading or a minuscule color shift.
Long exposure to outdoor light or UV light is considered to further the change, but Apple has not made a public statement.
Apple has stated that sloppy cleaning is probably behind the trend. Apple advises users to avoid cleaning the device with harsh chemicals, abrasive substances, or peroxide cleaners. Instead, Apple suggests cleaning the phone with a soft, lint-free cloth, lightly moistened with water or with a solution that has 60% isopropyl alcohol or 75% ethyl alcohol.
Failing to follow these guidelines will strip away the anodized finish, degrading the vibrant Cosmic Orange color of iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

Customers who find discoloration are asked to contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store. Several customers stated that they received replacement units after they reported the problem. Support claims can be made easily by providing detailed photographs as evidence of discoloration, along with a description of the previous cleaning practices.
The problem is not widespread at this stage; however, prompt action will not only help maintain the resale value of iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max but also their overall aesthetic appeal.
While only a handful of units appear to be impacted, the news has spread like wildfire. Apple has not made a full recall, but emphasizes that good cleaning and handling procedures can go a long way towards avoiding the problem. By following these guidelines, users can enjoy the vibrant Cosmic Orange color scheme without worry.
