Google could soon let Gemini call friends and family on behalf of Pixel 11 users, expanding its Call for Me feature beyond businesses. The possible upgrade surfaced in recent Phone by Google app code, where Gemini Calling screens reportedly show contacts such as Mom and John. The feature could deliver messages or ask simple questions for contacts, while Google has not confirmed a release date.
The reported expansion targets Pixel 11 phones through Gemini and would change how personal calls work. Android Authority found the unreleased screens during an APK teardown on October 5, while The Verge separately reported the possible personal calling feature. Gemini could handle basic requests such as telling a parent someone will arrive late or asking a friend about dinner plans.
Call for Me currently handles routine business calls on Pixel 11 devices through Gemini. It can navigate automated menus, wait through music, speak with employees, and provide users with a live transcript. The feature also lets users take control when a conversation needs direct input.
Personal calling would give Call for Me a different role beyond tedious business tasks. Gemini could contact saved numbers, deliver a short message, ask a straightforward question, and return the response. The approach could help people reach contacts who prefer calls, miss messages, or still use landline phones.
The reported screens also point toward stronger controls for AI-initiated calls. Android Authority found granular Gemini permissions that could let users manage phone-related actions. The Verge noted these settings may also support controls around automated incoming calls.
Google has already acknowledged the trust challenge surrounding AI conversations. “Asking AI to speak on your behalf is a big step that requires genuine trust,” Google said when introducing Call for Me.
The feature remains experimental, and Google could change or cancel the reported expansion before launch. Current Call for Me access remains limited to eligible US Pixel 11 users in an early preview. The wider personal calling version has no confirmed availability date yet.
