Google’s Q1 2026 report highlights the growth of paid subscriptions by 25 million, raising its total subscriber base to approximately 350 million. This steady rise from 325 million in the previous quarter, marks the company’s expanding push beyond advertising into recurring revenue streams.
The growth has mainly been driven by YouTube Premium and Google One, both of which have gained substantial traction. The figures indicate an overall change in how Google has started monetizing its ecosystem through subscriptions.
YouTube remained the largest growth driver in subscription numbers. Features such as ad-free access to content and background playback are the major reason for users to choose the paid version.
The video streaming platform has also been more strict about ad blockers lately, prompting users to choose the premium version. Apart from the significant increase in subscriptions, YouTube has generated little revenue from advertising.
Google One played an important role in making this quarter successful. The cloud subscription service introduced AI technology along with other products, such as Gemini.
Additionally, the integration of AI technology has prompted many people to subscribe to this product, as they receive productivity and creativity applications in one package. The best quarterly performance for consumer AI subscriptions was recorded this time, with Google One standing out.
