God of War fans have to wait a little longer for Faye’s adventure. In a surprising announcement, Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War: Laufey. The game is now shifting to May 20, 2027 from February 16, 2027. This means players will have to wait three more months to get their hands on the game.
The title was first announced in June 2026, and it quickly caught the attention of the franchise's players for putting Kratos' wife, Faye, in the lead role. According to the studio, this extra time is needed to finish the game in a better way.
The official post by Santa Monica Studio reveals, “Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we've been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye's journey through the Everywhen. We don't take for granted the trust placed in our studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.”
It also thanked fans for their support and patience. However, the developers have not shared any specific problem that led to the delay. The extra time seems to be aimed at making sure the game is ready for players.

One of the biggest changes in God of War: Laufey will present is the combat system. Kratos is known for his strong and heavy attacks. His fights often focus on powerful axe strikes, close combat, and well-timed moves.
Faye will bring a very different style to the game. Instead of using raw power, she may rely more on speed, quick moves, and acrobatic attacks. This could make fights faster and give players more freedom to move around enemies. Her sword and the mysterious ribbon Rue may also play an important role in combat.
God of War: Laufey will now launch on May 20, 2027, for PS5. The delay may disappoint fans who were hoping to play it earlier. However, the extra time could help the studio deliver a better game. Fans will now be waiting to see how Faye's story and fighting style bring something new to the God of War series.
