Sony’s decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical discs has triggered widespread debate among gamers. While fans voiced concerns over digital ownership, Domino’s UK seized the moment with a witty social media campaign that quickly went viral.

After Sony confirmed that all new PlayStation titles launched from January 2028 will be digital-only, Domino’s UK posted a mock announcement on X. The pizza chain jokingly claimed it would also stop making physical pizzas and switch entirely to ‘digital pizzas.’

Domino’s Serves Up Satire

Domino’s mentioned in their tongue-in-cheek post that their customers would be able to ‘download pizza codes’ rather than order any actual food items. The company further noted that people could eat the pizzas using the ‘power of imagination,’ making fun of the concept of replacing something real with an imaginary version.

Additionally, the company modified its famous slogan in its campaign. Instead of its traditional motto, Domino’s humorously stated that it will now use “Domin-oh-hoo-whose-dumb-idea-was-this,” referring to the criticism that was associated with Sony’s new decision.

The funny posts started going viral across various social networking platforms, with most users complimenting the company on its effective marketing strategy. There were some gamers, too, who appreciated the campaign for depicting how frustrated they had become by the loss of their game discs.

Why is Sony Making the Shift

Sony explained that this is a result of changing buying behavior, where digital purchases are the predominant method of purchasing PlayStation games. Starting January 1st, 2028, all new PlayStation games will be sold in digital form via the PlayStation Store and other retail outlets. Older PlayStation games, however, will still be available in disc format.

The company feels that this change will make life simpler.

Gamers Remain Divided

Despite Sony’s reasoning, many people still do not believe. They say that physical discs give real ownership of the game, the possibility to sell or share it, and contribute to its preservation in the future. Digital buying offers less freedom and greater dependence on the Internet.

The Domino’s Pizza promotion campaign was supposed to be a joke; however, it also raised a question that concerns many gamers. With the digitalization of the entire industry, the controversy will be topical for some time to come.
