PlayStation 6 is among the most highly anticipated gaming products, much like Grand Theft Auto 6. Sony has not released any official information regarding its upcoming platform.

PS6 Launch Price May Shock Console Buyers

According to a recent leak, the PlayStation 6 might cost above $1,000, making it the priciest PlayStation system to date. Reports suggest that higher hardware prices could be the primary reason for the surge.

If accurate, the price of the PlayStation 6 would be nearly twice that of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which debuted at Rs. 49,990 in India. According to sources, prices might not drop significantly after the debut.

Leaks Reveal Powerful Hardware for Sony's Next Console

Sony has yet to officially reveal the PlayStation 6 specifications. However, leaks suggest the console could feature a 10-core AMD Zen 6 processor. The chipset is expected to include 7 or 8 high-performance Zen 6c cores dedicated to gaming.

It can also have two low-power cores used only by the OS to help minimize CPU overhead and enhance gaming performance. The next-generation graphics processor in the new console is expected to feature AMD’s RDNA 5 graphics technology, which allegedly delivers 3x performance compared to the current PlayStation 5 variants.

Furthermore, it may come with 30 GB of ultra-fast GDDR7 memory. The company has not officially announced anything regarding the PlayStation 6 yet. Nevertheless, early signs show that the launch of this console may take place at the end of 2027 or early 2028.

PS6 Price Could Cross the $1,100 Mark

Bill of Materials (BoM) of the PlayStation 6 is currently projected at $1,000, denoting the cost of the various materials needed to make the device. This was noted by hardware insider KeplerL2 in March 2026. The product’s manufacturing cost was $750 (Rs. 70,767), but some speculations suggest a spike of $250 (Rs. 23,583).

BoM does not account for assembly, packing, transportation, marketing, or retailers' profit margins, and therefore is not the real price that customers pay at retail establishments. If the production cost estimate holds, PS6 may be tagged at $1,100 - $1,200 (Rs. 1,03,776). This is significantly more than PS5’s launch price.

Will Delaying PS6 Really Lower Manufacturing Costs?

Sony has limited opportunity to cut costs by delaying the launch as PlayStation 6 hardware design has already been finalized.

Additionally, the PS6 leaks note that any delay would only result in a later release of the same system without the advantage of more affordable or improved parts. He concluded that postponing production would likely increase manufacturing costs instead of lowering them.

According to him, costs would only decline if semiconductor and memory prices dropped significantly and stayed low for an extended period. He believes such a price decline is highly unlikely. Therefore, he stated that if the current trend of growing component prices continues, an earlier launch is a more viable choice.
