The late Brian Pillman is incorrectly listed as a WWE Hall of Famer in WWE 2K25.
More than 300 wrestlers can be played in the game, including recent additions like Pillman's son, Lexis King.
Supporters speculate that Pillman might be in a future class of the Hall of Fame.
In WWE 2K25, a voiced dialogue line incorrectly refers to Brian Pillman as a WWE Hall of Fame member, which is an error. Although his son appears in the game, Brian Pillman himself does not, making the tribute from commentator Michael Cole an undeserved honor for his career. This mistake may disappoint fans who know Pillman's actual legacy and contributions to the sport. The inaccuracy highlights the importance of attention to detail in sports games.
With more than 300 playable wrestlers, WWE 2K25's roster has the most wrestlers of any game in the franchise's history. This figure encompasses current RAW, SmackDown, and NXT roster players as well as historical figures and original works from the Visual Concepts development team.
Though his real-life son, Lexis King, is one of more than 30 new wrestlers in WWE 2K25's base game roster, Brian Pillman himself is notably absent. A former tag team partner and rival of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Pillman tragically died of a heart attack in 1997 at the age of 35 while under contract with WWE.
A line of Cole's in-ring commentary identifies King as the son of a WWE Hall of Fame member, as Reddit user Sad-Ladder7534 noted.
In particular, WWE fans may recall Pillman for his bitter rivalry with Austin and his association with The Hart Foundation in the mid-1990s. Pillman started his wrestling career with WCW in 1989 and formed The Hollywood Blonds with Austin in 1993. Pillman has never been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, despite the fact that Attitude Era fans probably have strong memories of his work.
Every year in April, usually right before the annual WrestleMania event, the WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place. Pillman was left out of this year's Hall of Fame class despite WWE 2K25 being released on March 14, just over a month before the ceremony.
At least one fan thinks the voiced line might be a clue to Pillman's posthumous inclusion in a later Hall of Fame class, despite the game's other immersion errors, which include strange typos on WWE wrestlers' attire and The Rock taking off the incorrect elbow pad during The People's Elbow.

The player speculates that Pillman might make an unexpected appearance in a future WWE 2K25 DLC pack. Although there are still two special celebrity guests to be revealed in the DLC release schedule, Pillman's name has not been formally mentioned. In 2024, Pillman's estate reached a Legacy Contract with WWE, allowing for new merchandise featuring his name and likeness.
An important factual omission in a game aiming for authenticity is highlighted by the WWE 2K25 commentary error, which wrongly inducted Brian Pillman into the Hall of Fame. For fans who are aware of Pillman's true status, this seemingly insignificant glitch disrupts the immersion. It provokes discussion about 2K's extensive dialogue tree fact-checking procedure.
Additionally, because of his recent Legacy Contract, it fuels fan speculation about Pillman's potential posthumous induction or inclusion as DLC. In the end, it's a noticeable error in a big game, and it's hard to get every detail just right.
