Apple raised iPhone prices across India after launching the iPhone 18 Pro series and iPhone Duo. The September 10 revision affects the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and iPhone 16. Apple updated its India store immediately after the launch, reversing the usual price-cut strategy for older models.
The sharpest increase affects the 1TB iPhone Air, which now costs Rs. 2,24,900 in India. Apple increased its price by Rs. 65,000 as memory and storage costs continue rising globally. Reuters linked the broader increases to stronger memory demand from AI data centers and reported India among the hardest-hit markets.
The iPhone 17 now starts at Rs. 99,900 for the 256GB version, up Rs. 17,000 from its earlier price. Its 512GB variant now costs Rs. 1,24,900 after increasing by Rs. 22,000. The iPhone 17e starts at Rs. 79,900, while its 512GB version reaches Rs. 1,04,900.
Apple also pushed the iPhone Air further into premium territory. Its 256GB version now costs Rs. 1,49,900, while the 512GB model reaches Rs. 1,74,900. The 1TB variant carries the largest increase, reaching Rs. 2,24,900 after a Rs. 65,000 jump.
The iPhone 16 also became considerably more expensive despite its age. Apple now lists the 128GB model at Rs. 89,900, compared with its earlier Rs. 69,900 price. The change adds Rs. 20,000 to the company’s entry point for this older generation.
Apple’s decision breaks from its traditional launch pattern. Older iPhones typically receive price cuts when newer generations arrive, creating cheaper entry points for buyers. This time, rising component costs have instead pushed the existing lineup upward.
The revised pricing also changes the gap between Apple’s models. The iPhone 17 now sits close to Rs. 1 lakh, while the iPhone Air starts at Rs. 1,49,900. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs. 1,64,900 in India, making the Air only Rs. 15,000 cheaper.
For Indian buyers, retailer discounts and exchange offers could therefore become more important during the upcoming festive season. Apple’s official prices now make older iPhones considerably less attractive as lower-cost alternatives.
