Anthropic is reportedly in discussions to acquire Decart AI, an NVIDIA-backed startup that develops AI infrastructure and optimization technology. If successful, the deal could be worth around $6 billion, according to reports. The potential acquisition comes as Anthropic looks to expand its computing capacity and accommodate the growing demand for its AI services.
Decart develops technology designed to improve the efficiency and performance of AI systems. The startup also develops its own AI models, including Lucy, which can edit live video in real time.
Another project, Oasis, creates simulated environments that can be used to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems. These capabilities could give Anthropic additional expertise as it works to improve the speed and efficiency of its own AI products.
According to reports, Decart's team could join Anthropic's inference and performance organization if the acquisition goes ahead. However, the discussions are still at an early stage.
Anthropic is also preparing for a major public listing, making additional infrastructure and performance capabilities increasingly important.
Decart attracted significant investor attention earlier this year. In May, the company raised $300 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures and NVIDIA. The reported acquisition discussions come as Anthropic works to address capacity constraints affecting its services.
The company recently began hiring engineers with experience across both hardware and software to help develop custom chips and AI models capable of running Claude more efficiently.
