The market for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has attracted a lot of celebrity interest and Justin Bieber recently paid $1.3 million for a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT. The singer even reportedly paid 300% more than the asking price. Bieber even took heat from the NFT community for buying an Ape with "no rare traits".
Bieber would've been better off buying up a selection of different NFT collections, including Chronocatz This is a new collection of 7,777 unique cats with different traits which allow access to a private members club. More importantly for the singer, the NFTs are linked to the Chronoly marketplace for rare and luxury watches. Bieber will no doubt own some bling watches and he could have got the best of both worlds in Chronocatz.
Justin Bieber paid 500 Ethereum for his Bored Ape and tweeted the purchase to his followers. The singer posted a photo of the BAYC #3001 – which features a cartoon ape in a black T-shirt with tears in its eyes. He also added lyrics to his song "Lonely."
Twitter was immediately scathing in its responses. "Justin Bieber really paid 5x the Bored Ape floor price for an ape with no rare traits. He just got finessed," one user tweeted. "Next time you think you're down bad, just remember that @justinbieber just bought a floor ape for 500 ETH," another added. It's unclear what drove Bieber to purchase the Ape NFT but there are more rare collectibles that could have returned more on the investment.
The Chronocatz NFTs are a new set of 7,777 unique cats with different clothes, fur, and accessories. The most important of those accessories is a watch linked to a rare, luxury timepiece in the real world. That watch will provide a tiered system for members' rewards with access to the Chrono Wealth Club. That will provide rewards such as additional staking yields, exclusive NFT drops, and auctions. The project also wants to build a thriving community with parties and events.
Chronocatz NFTs are a creation of the Chronoly marketplace for luxury watch trading on a decentralized platform. That has the potential to bring in investors from many different circles and a desire to be first on private drops would fuel the appetite for investors to get involved with the Chronocatz project. Bieber could have probably gotten a tidy return on his investment in CRNO and Chronocatz but chose the celebrity route. Although BAYC NFTs are backed by investor trust, Catz is backed by utility.
