Microsoft is hiring a Principal Applied & Data Science Engineer to join its Customer Service Applications Team. Primary Responsibilities

  • Conceive, design, and implement state-of-the-art AI and ML techniques, including, but not limited to, foundation models, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and multi-agent architectures.

  • Fine-tune foundation models with domain-specific datasets. Assess the model's behavior in terms of relevance, bias, hallucinations, and response quality by running experiments and performing an ROI analysis.

  • Work with cross-functional teams in product, research, and engineering to deliver AI-driven innovations into production environments.

  • Develop AI prototype solutions, debug the production code, and contribute to MLOps/AIOps workflows, such as CI/CD, monitoring, and retraining.

  • Publish research findings, file patents, and present at conferences to advance Microsoft's AI leadership.

  • Apply the principles of Responsible AI throughout the development process for fairness, privacy, and security.

  • Translate research into scalable business solutions that impact customer experiences and product value directly.

Required / Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience (with 6+ in AI/ML, predictive analytics, or research); OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience with Generative AI or LLM/ML algorithms.

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and biennially thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MLOps workflow implementation using methods such as continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), re-training, and monitoring of machine-learning models.

  • Familiarity with the use of large language model operations (LLM), such as LangChain and PromptFlow.

  • A record of achievement, including publications, patent awards, or presentations at conferences.

  • Experience in performing applied research or creating and implementing a successful AI deployment in a live production environment.

  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in generative AI technologies and their application to deep-learning and multi-modal systems.

  • Experience in full product lifecycles, from idea/concept through experimentation to deployment and monitoring.
