1000 Cr. Dream of India’s Fastest-Growing Wearables Brand: Exclusive Interview with Varun Gupta, Co-Founder, GOBOULT

Published on

In a global market where wearables are struggling to hold ground, India’s home-grown brand Boult rebranded itself to GOBOULT and is defying the odds by staying profitable while scaling aggressively. With more than 30,000 offline stores and an expanding premium lineup, the company has positioned itself as India’s fastest-growing wearables player.

What does it take to build trust in a saturated market, and where will the next big disruption come from: health, AI, or entirely new form factors? Varun Gupta, Co-Founder of GOBOULT, shares insights on his winning formula in a market dominated by global brands, upcoming IPO plans, design-led innovation, scaling with premiumisation, and the future of intelligent wearables.

Q

GOBOULT has been named India’s fastest-growing wearables brand in a declining industry. What is your winning formula?

A

For us at GOBOULT, it starts with a clear focus on technology and design innovation. Because we have a strong in-house design team, we can move from concept to market much faster, by quickly prototyping, running tight feedback loops, and compressing launch cycles compared to the industry norm.

At the same time, we hold ourselves to global benchmarks on design and quality, because young consumers want wearables that look premium, perform reliably, and remain accessible. That ability to combine speed, innovation, and accessibility without compromising on quality is what has powered our growth.

Q

As you scale from 3,000 to 30,000+ offline stores, how will you ensure brand trust while driving premiumisation through products like Mustang and Klarity?

A

Scaling offline is not just about putting more products on shelves; it is about making sure every touchpoint reflects GOBOULT’s commitment to design and quality. Our in-house design and R&D teams are closely involved in how products like Mustang and Klarity are created, focusing on premium materials, rigorous testing, and technology that genuinely adds value.

On the retail side, we are building consistency in brand experience, from how the product is displayed to how it is serviced, so that trust grows as fast as our footprint. For us, premiumisation is not about becoming less approachable; it is about showing young consumers that they can access better design and advanced technology without being priced out.

Q

While global players like Apple and Samsung continue to dominate premium wearables, where do you see GOBOULT catching up, and in which areas do you think Indian brands are still lagging?

A

At GOBOULT, we don’t view this as a race to catch up; we see it as an opportunity to redefine the playing field for India and beyond. Apple and Samsung have set benchmarks, but their products are not always designed with the realities of Indian consumers in mind.

Our strength lies in premiumisation with accessibility, creating products that look and feel global while remaining priced for India, without compromising on quality. We’ve already built strong traction in areas like design, battery performance, and health monitoring, where consumers demand reliability without paying a premium tax.

The real gap for Indian brands today lies in deep technology integration, including advanced sensors, AI-driven personalization, and material innovation. That is precisely where we are focusing our investments, because the next leap in wearables is not simply about hardware. It is about intelligence, trust, and creating technology that genuinely improves everyday life.

Q

You’ve announced a ₹25 crore R&D investment this year. What breakthrough features or innovations can consumers expect as GOBOULT doubles down on design and quality-first strategy?

A

This R&D investment is our statement of intent: design and quality are non-negotiable at GOBOULT. We are channeling resources into solving the most significant consumer pain points and shaping what the next generation of wearables should feel like.

Battery innovation remains front and center, because consumers don’t want devices that run out of charge halfway through their day — they want wearables that last for days, not hours. Equally important is health and wellness, where accuracy, contextual insights, and dashboards calibrated for Indian lifestyles can turn data into real, actionable value.

We are also pushing the boundaries of material innovation, developing finishes and components that combine sustainability with a premium, global aesthetic. And then there is intelligence: the shift from reactive to predictive, where AI-driven personalization ensures your device doesn’t just record your habits but begins to anticipate your needs.

All of this is about creating wearables that aren’t gadgets, but companions — smarter, longer-lasting, and seamlessly integrated into daily life. While we remain focused on the wrist today, the research naturally opens up possibilities for new form factors in the future, including areas such as smart glasses, which could one day extend the wearable experience even further.

Q

Where do you see the next big disruption in wearables- health, AI, or something entirely new?

A

The next big disruption in wearables will not be defined by a single feature such as health, AI, or design. It will come from the convergence of all three. At GOBOULT, we see the future in creating devices that move beyond tracking to become adaptive, predictive, and seamlessly woven into daily life.

Health will remain a necessary foundation, but it is only one part of the picture. The fundamental transformation lies in personalization powered by AI, in material and design innovation, and in form factors that make technology feel invisible yet indispensable.

A wearable device should not simply sit on the wrist; it should evolve into a lifestyle companion that is smarter, longer-lasting, and designed for the realities of India while standing confidently on a global stage.

This is why our R&D efforts extend beyond wellness and sensors to breakthroughs in battery performance, sustainable finishes, and exploratory work in areas such as smart glasses. The disruption of tomorrow will not arrive through one function but through the alignment of intelligence, design, and human experience. That is the future GOBOULT is building toward.
