Fortnite and Mentos don’t fit right, do they? Well, that’s indeed true. While one is a renowned battle-royale, the other is a candy brand. Notably, these two things apparently have no connection. However, Epic Games is always famous for its unique collaboration, and once again the game is about to do the same. In an innovative fusion, these two companies are creating an unexpected experience for gamers. As per the reports, Mentos has introduced the ‘Fizzooka,’ a custom rocket launcher within Fortnite Creative. Let’s see what this bizarre combination offers.
Fortnite is about to bring the real-life Coke and Mentos experiment into the virtual gaming world to fight enemies on the battlefield. 90s kids must have remembered the experiment where dropping Mentos into soda results in a volcanic eruption. The same thing players can now do in the Fortnite Creative mode.
This is not an official partnership with Epic Games, but the confectionery group Perfetti Van Melle and BBH London have created Mentos Fizzooka, a custom gaming rocket that one can acquire in Fortnite Creative. This is the only rocket that shoots an explosive reaction of Mentos and cola to allow players to blast opponents across the map. This can destroy any build with a single shot. allowing players to blast opponents across the map. This adds a new dimension and a strategic edge to the gameplay.
Reportedly, over the next two-week period, this launcher will be dropped in some of the most popular Fortnite maps, and according to Perfettiaiming, this initiative is aimed at engaging over a million players daily. Most importantly, BBH partnered with gaming specialists Metavision to ensure a seamless integration of the launcher into the game's environment. The most interesting part is that this marks the first appearance of the cola and Mentos experiment in a gaming platform.
This campaign doesn’t stop here. The Fortnite-Mentos collaboration has gone further beyond the digital world, with Mentos partnering with YouTube creators The Hacksmith to craft a real-world version of the Fizzooka. Reportedly, the real-life version of this launcher will measure over three feet in length.
If that sounds exciting, then there’s something more exciting waiting for players. The physical replica of the cannon is projected as a soda geyser with the force of a firehose. Apart from that, 30 replica Fizzookas are reportedly being produced and distributed to influencers worldwide to enable them to experience and showcase the device under controlled conditions.
As for now, this campaign spans more than 20 global markets and encompasses influencer partnerships and social media activities. According to BBH London creative director Stu Royall, “get Mentos into pop culture, and for our audience of 16- to 24-year-olds, gaming is a huge part of that.” He further emphasizes the importance of games to offer both useful and entertaining things to acknowledge skepticism towards overt brand placements.
This collaboration of Mentos and Fortnite is unique indeed. No one ever thought that Mentos would bring a cannon to the virtual realm to exemplify a creative approach to brand integration within digital platforms. This is not only a strategic collaboration to increase the popularity of Mentos among the younger generation, but it will also help Fortnite to have exciting weapons in the game to enhance the appeal. Canons are not new to this battle royale, but eliminating opponents with an explosion of cola and Mentos is exceptional for sure. This is not an official collaboration, but it has drawn significant attention from gamers.
