The mere mention of Minecraft conjures up images of an endless, open world where exploration knows no bounds. Since its release in 2011 by Mojang Studios, this sandbox game has experienced a remarkable trajectory of slow but steady growth. Despite initial modest performance, Minecraft has defied expectations to shatter records in the gaming industry. As of 2024, it stands as the best-selling video game of all time, boasting an impressive 300 million copies sold and a staggering 170 million monthly active players.
The procedurally generated in-game world of the game is immensely challenging to survive in without using the resources properly. The nighttime is especially merciless in Minecraft, as different mobs roam around the world to kill players. Therefore, sometimes cheat codes and commands help players have a more soothing gameplay experience. This article will provide gamers with some of the cheat codes that work for both versions of the game.
Of course, Minecraft has loads of cheat codes that work for both editions, but the process of enabling them in both editions is different. Therefore, one must know the exact way to enable them in different Minecraft editions.
In the Java Edition of the game, while creating a new world, players follow the given steps to activate cheat codes:
Click on Allow Cheats.
Turn it on.
If it’s an existing world, go to the ‘Open to LAN’
Turn on Allow Cheats.
Now, for the Bedrock Edition, players need to follow the given steps to enable cheats. This will work for console players as well:
Create a New World
Find the Create New World menu.
Go to the Cheats tab.
Turn on ‘Activate Cheats.’
That’s how cheats should be enabled, but one thing players must keep in mind is that enabling cheat codes will turn off achievements from that world.
Once cheats are enabled, there are no restrictions on using cheats in the in-game world of the game. Using them, players can easily manipulate the in-game world of the game. To start using commands, players must press the slash (/). It will open a chat window to enter commands. Here are some of the most useful commands:
/gamemode [mode]: Changes the game mode. Using this command, games can replace the game mode to ‘survival,’ ‘creative,’ ‘adventure,’ or ‘spectator.’
/give [player] [item] [quantity]: Using this command allows players to use the required items that they don't have at that point.
/tp [target] [destination]: This command teleports a player to a specific location. In most cases, teammates use this code to teleport a separated teammate to the base.
/time set [value]: This particular command changes the time of the day. One can use this command to change the time to day, night, or midnight according to their convenience.
/weather [type]: This one alters the weather. So, players can use it to change the weather to clear, rain, or thunder.
The above section has the cheat codes that enhance standard gameplay. But for players who want to delve deeper, here are the advanced commands:
/effect [player] [effect] [seconds] [amplifier]: This command is for applying the status effect. Even gamers can use this command to apply status effects to someone else.
/fill [from] [to] [block]: This command is to fill a certain region with specific blocks. This means, if players want a specific location to be filled with lava blocks, they can use this command to do that.
/clone [from] [to] [destination]: With this command, blocks can be copied from one location to another.
/summon [entity] [x] [y] [z]: This is one of the most dangerous commands to use. Using this command, gamers can summon any mob, even the Ender Dragon, the Wither, etc.
/xp [amount] [player]: This specific command adds experience points.
Minecraft’s world is full of challenges, and playing the game without these cheat codes is even fun as well. However, these codes provide players more grasp over their gameplay and control it according to their wish. Whether one adjusts game modes, summons entities, or alters the environment, these commands work for everything.
