Meme Coins: From Social Currency to an Actual Currency! A Look at Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and Dogetti

Published on

Memes are Gen Z's social currency. It's no wonder why the crypto industry wants to get in on the fun! Meme coins have been around since 2013, and while they were originally created to satirise cryptocurrencies, some of them have gone on to become legitimate currencies in their own right.

The rise of meme coins has not been without controversy, however. This corner of the crypto world has been plagued with low-value coins, unfinished projects, and outright scams. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom though – plenty of meme coins have proved their utility and commitment to social responsibility like Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and Dogetti (DETI). Coincidentally, they're all inspired by our canine friends!

The First of the First: Dogecoin

Call this the Godfather (or Dogefather) of meme coins. Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus probably didn't expect their little Bitcoin parody they created in 2013 to explode in popularity as much as it did. They certainly didn't expect the token to have the backing of Tesla/SpaceX/Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who's said Dogecoin is his favourite cryptocurrency.

Musk's Twitter has actually been a great way to promote DOGE, as the token's value soars each time he tweets about the coin. The quirky CEO loves the coin so much, in fact, Tesla and SpaceX accept Dogecoin as payment. Ranking number 9 on CoinMarketCap's list, the mark Dogecoin has made on the crypto market is undeniable, as we'll see from the legion of copycats (er, dogs) it's inspired.

Slayer of Dogecoin: Shiba Inu

Shiba Inu brandishes a metaphorical katana to Dogecoin's success. Dubbed 'the Dogecoin killer', this very special doggy was created in 2020 by an anonymous individual named 'Ryoshi'. Ryoshi claims anyone who tries to unmask him would be sorely disappointed. Shiba Inu has also caught the attention of Elon Musk (his fascination with doggy cryptos doesn't end with Dogecoin, it seems.) and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin.

Shiba Inu has a dream – a dream that one day he will be more than just another meme coin with no real value. And now this dream is being realised; SHIB's ecosystem includes a decentralised exchange called ShibaSwap, a Layer 2 blockchain called Shibarium, its NFT collection of Shiboshis, a metaverse initiative, and a free-to-play mobile game called Shiba Eternity.

Bow Before the Don: Dogetti

Meet the newest gangster on the block – Dogetti. This sharp-dressed pooch wearing a fedora is having an incredible year, raising about $650,000 and selling nearly 7.7 million tokens. Of course, like every mafia don, Don Eloni of Dogetti cares deeply about his 'family'. It has a 2% reflection protocol in place, which means DETI redistributes 2% of every transaction to token holders. The magical 2% appears in other places – 2% of every transaction is added to a charity wallet and another 2% is split between liquidity and burn wallets.

Dogetti's generosity doesn't end there; the one-time secret family code DON50 allows you to gain 50% extra tokens with a DETI purchase.

There is no better time to invest in Dogetti, as tokens are being sold dirt cheap and investors believe this puppy could grow up to be a fierce hound.
